THE "GALLERIA DEGLI UFFIZI"

The GALLERIA DEGLI UFFIZI is one of the most beautiful museum in the world. The Uffizi were the offices of the well-known family of the Medici (Uffizi = offices). Since the beginning, however, the Medici Family dedicated some rooms at the works of their art collections.
Today the Uffizi contains works of Italian and foreign artists from 13° to 18° century, among whose Cimabue, Giotto, Masaccio, Beato Angelico, Leonardo da Vinci, Botticelli, Michelangelo, Piero della Francesca, Raffaello, Caravaggio, as well as Rubens, Rembrandt, Dürer, Goya and many others. |
The "Corridoio Vasariano", that connects the "Galleria degli Uffizi" with "Forte Belvedere", accommodates a rich collectionof artist's portraits of the present and of the past . Built by Vasari in 1565, it passes over the Old Bridge, (that it is in fact the oldest bridge of the town), with its several jewelry shops. |

The National Museum of "IL BARGELLO" has seat in one of the oldest buildings of Florence and is one of the most attractive of Italy. Built in 125, the Bargello turned into a Museum only in the half of 19° century. What the Uffizi offer in paints, the Bargello offers in sculptures. "SAN MARCO" MUSEUM

The SAN MARK museum introduced in the old cloister domenicano was restored and broadened until the present shape, by architect Michelozzo (1396-1472) on assignment of Cosimo de' Medici, "il Vecchio". This building was theatre of the ardent artistic activity of the Beato Angelico (1400-1450) and, later on , of Gerolamo Savonarola's one. |
Fra' Angelico, monk domenicano, and then Priore of the cloister, designed in perfect tune with the architecture of the structure, the chiostro and the cells of the first floor. The museum contains also works of Fra' Angelica in the shape of you fresco, panels. The museum contains also a fresco of the Ghirlandaio representing "L'ultima cena" (end of 15 century) and, in the bookstore a rare collection of manuscripts.

"SPEDALE DEGLI INNOCENTI" Gallery

The Gallery OF THE "Spedale Degli Innocenti" is in one of the most well-known and attractive architectural complex of the 15 century in Florence, ordered and financed by the Arte della Lana on drawing of Filippo Brunelleschi. The Spedale helped to grow the neglected children. In the building of the refectory, in the "chiostro", in the dormitories, in the rooms of the nurses and in the portico, Brunelleschi created a perfect example of harmonious and rational architecture. |
Subsequently it was decorated with frescos ordered by the Medici' Family. After the flood of 1966, the complex was entirely restored and it returned in all its appearance. The Gallery, above the "chiostro" and the children rooms above the portico, contain splendid pieces of incalculable artistic value.

PALAZZO VECCHIO: "Quartieri monumentali"

Monument of exceptional artistic and historian importance, the palace was in the centuries the political centre and the symbol of the town. Planned likely by Arnolfo di Cambio. Goes back to this period the severe and elegant structure, with the characteristic tower. Seat of the Signoria in the XV century, from that the name of Palace of the Signoria, in 1540 with Cosimo I de Medici became the residence of family. Transformed from the Vasari in a sumptuous palace in which the Lounge of the Sixteenth century, the precious Studiolo of Francesco I , the refined frescos of The Quartiere di Eleonora and the Quartieri degli Elementi are located. The Frescos are painted by artists like the Ghirlandaio, Francesco Salviati, the Bronzino, the same Vasari. Moreover, in the Palace you will find some masterpieces of the renaissance sculptures : il Genio della Vittoria - Michelangelo - and the bronze group Giuditta e Oloferne - Donatello.

MUSEO BARDINI

The Museum was given to the Town of Florence from Stefano Bardini (1836-1922), fine expert of art and capable international merchant. It has seat in the prestigious constituent arcades the imposing neo palace- renaissance. Altars, climbs, portals, columns and ceilings from churches and palaces are preserved. It contains works that go from the Roman period to the eighteenth century, amongst the what masterpieces of painting and sculpture like the la Carità di Tino di Camaino, la Madonna dei Cordai di Donatello, il San Michele Arcangelo di Antonio del Pollaiolo, and numerous valuable smaller works: ceramics, medals, bronzes and eastern carpets. To the last plan of the palace, the Galleria Corsi is constituted from about 700 paintings from the XIV to the XIX century.

Santo Spirito Museum - "Cenacolo del Convento"

The complex agostiniano of Santo Spirito is one of the large religious and artistic monument of Florence, acquired from the Town Hall in 1868. The Museum has seat in the ancient Cenacolo del Convento, decorated with a grandiose fresco of Andrea Orcagna representing the Crocifissione and l' Ultima Cena (of 1365 c. to).
Fondazione Romano
Here are located the sculptures gave to the Town of Florence in 1946 from the neapolitan antiquarian Salvatore Romano, a small but important collection that goes from the pre-Romanic age to the XV century; the unit of sculptures constitutes one of the rare presences in Florence of the art of this period. Between the more significant works there are the Cariatide and the Angelo Adorante of Tino di Camaino, the Madonna with Child of Jacopo della Quercia and two bas-reliefs of Donatello with San Prosdocimo and San Massimo, arriving from the Basilica of the Holy in Padua.

"FIRENZE COM'ERA" - Museo Storico Topografico

Across paintings, prints and plastics, the Museum offers a rich visual documentation of the development of Florence from the Renaissance to the end of the past century. Next to the large reproduction of the well-known Pianta della Catena of 1470, you find the topographical Plant of Stefano Bonsignori (1594), the first one recognized from the Science. The series of twelve famous Lunette of Giusto di Utens (1599) offers an important deposition of the "medicee" villas at the end of the Sixteenth century. The eighteenth century is documented from the attractive sights of the Zocchi, while in the nineteenth-century section are great the images of the Old Market and of the Israeli Ghetto before the destruction. A new section, created for the show To The origins of Florence, show the evolution of the Florentine area during the romans era.

CAPPELLA BRANCACCI

In the Church of Santa Maria del Carmine it is preserved one of the highest depositions of the painting of all the times: the frescos of Cappella Brancacci performed by Masolino and Masaccio and completed, after the death of this last, from Filippino Lippi. The recent restore underline the unitary of the large decorative cycle, that was conceived and performed from the first two artists in tight collaboration.
Across the twelve stages with the Original Sin and the Stories of the life of San Pietro it is illustrated the story of the salvation realized from the Church trough Pietro. Next to the high pictorial quality of the work of Masolino, the frescos reveal all the importance of Masaccio in the pertaining to perspective harshness of the stages and in the volumetric power of the figures: famous the dramatic Fuga dal Paradiso and Pagamento del Tributo. On these pages all of the Florentine artists of the fifteenth century formed themselves.

MUSEO "STIBBERT"

The Museum created from Frederick Stibbert (1838-1906, inside the villa of Montughi , constitutes a rare nineteenth-century example of museum: the preparation of every room was studied to evoke the atmosphere of the period and of the places of origin of the works, and the reorganization of the villa had entrusted at the greater architects and decorators of the time that realized a house-museum of large suggestion.

Stibbert was man of large culture and capable financier, that exercised a decisive role on the antiquarian market European. The collections reflect its interest for the story and the different customs of peoples and include arms, frameworks, customs, objects of furnish and of applied art, tapestry and painting from the Sixteenth century to the nineteenth century. The more significant section is that of arms and European frameworks of middle east and Japanese origin. Of special effect is the Room of the Ridden, where are lined up some natural size European and Islamic knights. Of large quality also the collection of customs.

Museo "MARINO MARINI"

The Museum, prepared in the evocative atmosphere of the ex-church of San Pancrazio, accommodates a large number of works that the sculpture Marino Marini (1901-1980) gave to the City of Florence. The collection, that offers to the town an important space for the contemporary art, offers the opportunity to retrace the artistic itinerary of one of the gratest sculptural of Italian the twentieth century. The 200 pieces are arranged according to a theme regulation, that allows the visitor to draw itself near the world of the artist, done of knights, Pomone and portraits. |
The museum accommodation respects with large sensibility the indications of Marini in the choice of the materials and of the natural illumination of the environments, creating a rare effect of harmony between the inside and the works.
